Position Summary

We’re looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer to lead our move to the cloud, starting with smaller applications and building toward migrating our microservices to the cloud. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role as our dedicated cloud specialist: you’ll partner directly with our Director of Software Engineering on architecture and migration strategy, and work closely with our DevOps engineer on deployment, while driving the day-to-day execution independently.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design and own the migration of applications and microservices from on-premise infrastructure to the cloud (GCP), starting with lower-risk workloads and progressing to larger, more business-critical systems
• Architect scalable, secure, cost-efficient environments on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), following the provider’s well-architected best practices
• Partner with the Director of Software Engineering on migration strategy and key architecture decisions
• Collaborate closely with our DevOps engineer to integrate migrated applications into existing CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows
• Establish monitoring, logging, and alerting to ensure reliability and performance post-migration
• Implement security, identity/access management (IAM), and networking best practices for cloud workloads
• Evaluate and recommend migration strategies (rehost, replatform, refactor) on a per-application basis
• Troubleshoot and resolve cloud infrastructure issues independently, with minimal escalation support
• Document architecture, runbooks, and migration decisions for future team growth

Qualifications and Skills Required:

Required:

• 8+ years of hands-on cloud engineering experience, including designing, deploying, and owning production workloads in the cloud
• Proven experience migrating applications from on-premise to cloud environments
• Strong working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Working familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform preferred), CI/CD concepts, and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) to collaborate effectively with our DevOps engineer
• Solid scripting ability (Python, Bash, or similar) for automation
• Working knowledge of cloud networking (VPCs, load balancers, DNS, security groups) and IAM
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and drive cloud initiatives day-to-day as the team’s dedicated cloud specialist

Preferred:

• Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect certification
• Experience migrating business-critical or transaction-based systems to the cloud
• Familiarity with observability tooling (e.g., Cloud Monitoring, New Relic)
